Combining diverse materials in interior design

Concrete and wood are two quite different and contrasting materials but when combined in interior design those two can make in my opinion pure magic. The coolness, industrial and contemporary look of concrete can add a pretty elegant and classy touch to the wooden elements. The epitome of elegance and aesthetic is by no means concrete floor, which can also be replaced with stone but then again we have sophisticated rustic look already. Enough said lets just have a look at a few images where combination of different materials and colour schemes is the main focus.

I just fell in love with wabi-sabi and how it represents the art of finding beauty in imperfection, modest living and unnecessary abundance. This style values simplicity, uncluttered, underplayed and modest surroundings, therefore the authenticity of its decor is crucial. So the existence of cracks and scratches in objects is so to speak the symbolic of the passing of time, weather and loving use. Another feature to wabi-sabi is the idea of the “distinct pretty” vs. “unique beauty.” Unlike shabby chic, wabi-sabi decor triggers minimalism which focal point are the people who live in the space than anything else. Possessions and other items are reduced to the essentials based on utility, beauty or nostalgia. The color palette is induced by whites and earth tones considering the use of natural materials.
